Curriculum Writing
John Bertles has created numerous study guides, lesson plans and other
curriculum-related material for many organizations, including Carnegie
Hall, New York Philharmonic, Grammy Foundation, Leonard Bernstein Center
and Manhattan School of Music. Here are some possibilities:
- Create Study Guides (or sections thereof) that elementary/middle school
teachers will actually use! SAMPLES
- Create individual classroom lessons or sequences of lessons intended
for use by elementary/middle school classroom teachers, arts specialists
or teaching artists.
- Lesson plans can be based on any form of music and relate to nearly
any curricular subject, including math, literacy, social studies, and
science. For example, a lesson on Jazz could be incorporated in
Black History Month curriculum; or a lesson on Classical Music could include
a writing component.
- Curriculum can be also created based on the use of
simple student-built instruments.
- Create "Science of Sound" curriculum in simple, easy-to-understand
lessons infused with fun demonstrations and exercises using every-day materials
(such as rubber bands, styrofoam and string). These lessons can be
implemented by classroom teachers, science specialists or teaching artists.
