Historical apologetics is concerned with
demonstrating that the events recorded in the New Testament are
historically reliable. The main focus of historical apologetics is the
resurrection of Jesus.
There are currently two approaches to
historical apologetics. The traditional approach shows that the New
Testament documents are historically reliable. With this premise
demonstrated it is a small step to show the resurrection of Jesus is a
historically reliable event.
The second approach is to allow the
modern critic virtually everything he wants concerning criticism of the
New Testament. Then, using what the radical critic agrees to as historical
fact , the resurrection is still shown to be the best explanation of the
remaining facts at hand.
