CIVILIZATION ON THE SIMIAN MIND
PICTURE
ACRYLIC ON CANVAS BOARD, 28" X 20"

"civilization on the simian mind" was displayed and sold at the works gallery in san jose in the summer of 2005. it was part of a show titled "fools". i wanted to express the idea that we are all just animals trying to act civilized; we must look very foolish to the rest of the animal kingdom!

EL SOL (SOUL) ROYALE
PICTURE
MIXED MEDIA ON CANVAS, 36" X 36"

yes, i know, the title of this piece is a mixture of spanish and french. call it artistic license. "el sol (soul) royale" means "the royal sun" with a play on words as "the royal soul". this was a commissioned piece. the client asked for something with a loose feel that would include two images in one. she asked for one of those images to be the sun. i chose a circle of crowns as the companion image. this piece is one of my favorites.

LUCKY DAY
PICTURE
OIL ON CANVAS, 24" X 24"

"lucky day" was a commissioned piece that was based on a dream i had. in the dream, i was walking down the street of a strange little seaside town and suddenly dozens of flying miniature penguins started dive-bombing my hair! i was alarmed until a local told me that it was a sign of good luck!

i don't have a photo of it, but the picture continues onto the edges of the canvas; if you look underneath you can see my mouth painted there continuing the very surprised look on my face.
