art on unusual surfaces by michelle winter

these are all pieces that were commissioned and are owned by individuals. these pieces brought their own dilemmas as the surfaces were not conventional.

THE BEE
PICTURE
PENCIL ON GUITAR

"the bee" is a little difficult to see in this photo, but there is a bee buzzing around this strange architectural landscape. this client gave me free range to decorate his guitar. he had no other instructions. i used pencil and then sprayed it many times over with a clear sealer. i suspect it was not anything like what he may have imagined i'd do, but that was half the fun! i took guitar lessons in lieu of a cash payment, but please don't ask me to play
unless you like the art of noise.

HUMPTY DUMPTY
PICTURE
ACRYLIC ON STOOL

humpty was painted on an old chlldren's stool. the art patron who commissioned this wanted something to share with her grandchildren. there was still some paint on the surface, so i turned it into the clouds. this one was really fun to paint.

SUPERMAN
PAINTING
ENAMEL ON REFRIGERATOR

i wish i had a better picture of this one. these crazy people wanted superman flying out of a red british-style phone booth painted on their refrigerator. the only kind of paint that would stick to the surface was enamel.

the side of the refrigerator was more of an afterthought, but i put a lot of work into the front. superman's clothes and glasses are sitting at the bottom of the booth and he has a bag of groceries from "s"afeway in one hand and a shopping list in the other. i really like the humor here.
