PT347 Found - March 28th, 1999

Early on the morning of March 29th, 1999 I recieved a fax from Peter Laggett - Kulau Lodge Beach Resort, East New Britain. Stating that he and a couple of other divers located the PT347.
Fax reads: "Great news for you. I have located a number of items from your father's PT Boat."
"Yesterday went to the area and found on top of the reef a complete engine still in good condition, 50mm gun, gearbox, shaft, stainless steel fuel tank and many other items of boat fittings in brass, stainless steal and aluminum. Brought a few items back, which are coral encrusted and will clean up. Everything found would be from the PT347 on top of the reef as you described in the reports.
We did not dive the passage due to time to look for PT346, however I am sure now of the location and will dive this at a latter date. We did however find one of the downed aircraft and have a rough position on the second, which we will also dive at a later date.
Before leaving the area, we held a minute's silence in rememberance of those poor souls killed in the incident.
Look forward to hearing back from you.
Kind Regards - Peter Laggett"
