As part of a Mellon Grant, Marquette University has reinvigorated its attention to writing across the curriculum. Under the excellent leadership of Rebecca Nowacek and Paula Gillespie, the program is reaching out to both faculty and graduate students, and continuing the efforts of others such as Virginia Chappell. On Sept. 5, I had the pleasure of visiting Marquette and running two workshops, one for graduate students and one for faculty (all from different disciplines) on effective methods of responding to student writing. Participants were great to work with, and brought excellent ideas and experiences to our hands-on work and discussions. Hats off to Rebecca and Paula for organizing such a pleasant and energized event.
