Welcome Friends! This personal page is the jumping off point for a lot of the activities in which we are involved in. Please click on the links on the left to go directly to the web pages associated with each aspect of our lives. The Upper Potomac Music Weekends are a full-time passion for Joanie, their director… and Nick lends a hand to sound, teaching, program and other aspects of some of the weekends. With 5 weekends currently, all running at the historic Hilltop House Hotel in Harpers Ferry, WV, there is a lot of variety in the programs offered. Check them out! Nick spends full time building musical instruments, and you can find out all about his instruments on his web page. It's mostly hammered dulcimers, but other instruments creep into the batches from time to time. We both serve on the board of Shepherdstown Music and Dance, and you can access their very informative web page by following that link. Joanie is concert chair, and Nick is sound chair on the board. Joanie is a founding member of Shepherdstown Northwest Morris and the Hicks with Sticks and is currently their webmistress… until she can find someone else fool enough to do it. They perform traditional dances from Britain in very colorful costume as fairs, festivals and other events around the country and abroad and host the Shepherdstown May Celebration. Nick plays hammered dulcimer, recorder, bagpipes, galoubet, tympanon, tambour de Bearne and a variety of other instruments in a band with Paul Oorts that specializes in traditional French, Belgian and continental music called, Ensemble Tympanon. Follow the link to find out a little more about that. Nick is also available to play at weddings, funerals, parties and such with a variety of local musicians.
