| In late June, I walk around our property and locate all the trees that died from last years pine beetle infestation. This is always a depressing job! The pine beetles usually begin to fly in July when the weather has warmed up considerably so we need to have the trees cut down and covered by then.
Jack and I gather the necessary equipment to work with the trees and stow this gear into the back of the truck. Our list of gear includes:
- Chain saw, Oil for the Chain, Premixed Oil and Gas
- Come-along
- Two bow saws (one each)
- Tape Measure
- Sprayer, Lindane (not sold any more), Gallon Jugs of Water, and a Measuring Cup
- Mattock, Hoe, and Shovel
- Clear Polyethylene Sheeting (6 mil thick) and Scissors
- Coffee, a Jug of Ice Water, and our cups
- Strong Work Gloves, Long Sleeve Shirt, Sunglasses, and Hats for both
- Sunscreen Lotion
Jack drives the truck as close as possible to the trees needing removal and we begin. As this photograph shows, I pick a level and shady spot that is out of the path of any trees to be cut down and set up a working and resting area. |
