Spring Fest Update.

We currently have 60 students signed up for the spring festival (3/12/07) and lots of special guests.  We are looking forward to seeing lots of friends to sing songs, play some great tunes and learn about Scotland & the Shetland Islands.

Thursday Activities…

Shepherdstown… offers some favorite spot for dinner...

A visit to Shepherdstown is not complete without a quick shop about town and a chance to visit one of it's many restaurants… since we'll be eating the next 7 meals or so at the Hilltop House, and something more exotic might be nice.  Recommendations will be given during the afternoon tour… over 13 restaurants in town.
O'Hurley's  General Store Session It is the night of the  O'Hurley's General Store Jam Session.  This takes place in the Great Hall, and includes a lot of our local musicians including sometimes Sam Rizzetta and Madeline MacNeil.  Floor space can be at a premium if there are many dulcimers, so I recommend showing up around 7PM to set up your instrument.
Another Thursday Night Jam... Come and join Chance Mc Coy, Ben Townsend, the Woodshedders and some other fine Old Time musicians at Hilltop House from 7:30 on in the Tap Room.   Some of our guest staff may be arriving in time to jam as well.
Friday Night Teacher Assisted Jam Sessions
Friday night is Jam Night… after our short evening program of Tavern Songs with Maynard and Sara Johnson and Scottish music with Peat & Barley (Bill Mitchell & Becky Ross) and other special guests in the Tap Room… it's time to bring out your instrument and strut your stuff.  The slow jam will be hosted by Linda Lowe Thompson and the upstairs jam by Cece Webster and others.
Mealtime Open Mikes…
At the Hilltop House, every meal is an OPEN MIKE, where we have set up an opportunity for all to share their music.  If you wish to be on the roster, please let us know in advance if possible so that we can judge how long each performance can be, or just sign up on the board at the entrance to the dining hall.  If no one signs up, we will NOT set up a sound system.
Mini Classes…
From 5:30-6:30PM each day we have a time set up for mini classes.
Scheduled mini classes so far are: Tavern Songs with Maynard & Sara, Alternating Hand Techniques with Linda Lowe, Scottish Dance with Becky Ross, and more.  Check out the registration packets when they get emailed with final choices.
Although the teachers each do one… several of our teachers will be off sound checking on Saturday night, so it's a great time to share a skill, tune or technique with others.   If you let me know before registration packets go out, I can put it on the official schedule.   Later additions can be posted on the notice board!
