The '48 in
08' tour was a fun and educational driving trip in classic Thunderbirds to all lower 48 State capitals. We did this
trip in 2008, from July 24 through September 22. The tour covered almost 15,000 miles and took 61 days.
It also included attending the CTCI International Convention in Portland, OR, July 28 to August 3, 2008.
The tour
started in the West, crossed the Northern States to the East Coast, down the Eastern seaboard, and then turned West through
the Southern States.
Please note,
we are not professional tour operators! This trip was just a group of classic Thunderbird owners getting together to
see some of our beautiful country. There was no entry fee for this tour, however, everyone did have to pay their own
expenses, including gas, vehicle maintenance, lodging, food, tolls, and souvenirs.
Pre-registration was
required.
We strongly
recommended each T-Bird participating in the tour be checked out by a professional mechanic prior to joining the caravan.
This minimized possible delays due to breakdowns during the tour.
Two-way radios
were used to communicate within the caravan. Cell phones were also used.
NOTE: If
Thunderbirders could not be available for the entire tour, we encouraged partial participation. We invited all CTCI chapter
members to join the tour while we were in their area.
