Sacramento - The Latest News
(7/22/08)

Thursday, July 24:  Ross Woodman of the Sacramento chapter will meet us at the Quality Inn in Sacramento around 5:30 p.m. and lead the caravan to Miller Park. At the park, we will hook up with 19 to 20 cars from the Sacramento chapter and caravan to the Capitol Grounds for photos. After photos, we will return to Miller Park for a picnic.

Friday, July 25:  Ross Woodman will meet us at the motel and we will caravan to a local restaurant for breakfast (time still to be determined - depends on how late we party at the picnic) and then lead us out of town (like, Get Out of Dodge).

Sacramento Update
(7/9/08)

The Sacramento Chapter is going all out for the start of the 48 in 08 tour. They are hosting a picnic on Thursday, July 24, along the Sacramento River in Miller Park, 2710 Ramp Way, Sacramento for T-Birders, friends and family. There will be a $5/person charge for those arriving in non-classic T-Birds.

We will leave the hotel and drive a short distance to the picnic area. From there, the Sacramento chapter will lead the T-Birds to the Capitol for our photo op; the current estimate is 20 T-Birds for the photo op. After the photo op, we will return to the picnic area for dinner.

On Friday morning, we will have breakfast with the Sacramento Chapter members and then they will provide an escort to guide us out of Sacramento and point us in the direction of Carson City.

There will be 9 T-Birds in the caravan from Sacramento to Carson City and on to Portland. One more will join us in Salem.

Cruisin' News
(7/1/08)

The Chick Magnet and Doc are on the cover of the July 2008 issue of Northern & Central California "Cruisin' News". A photo of the 48 in 08 decal is also on the cover. An article about the 48 State Capitals Tour is on pages 68 and 69, plus more photos of Doc and The Chick!

Caravan Communications
(7/1/08)

While driving on the 48 in 08 tour, Doc and Lucy will be using two-way radios. We will be on Channel 7, Interference Code 1, as long as there isn't a lot of outside chatter; if there is, we will try one channel up or down. Lucy's radio is an older Motorola Talkabout, FRS/GMRS Recreational Two-Way radio with a 10-mile range.

Carson City Update
(7/22/08)

Bill Goldman will meet us at the Quality Inn Trailside Inn in Carson City. We will take the Capitol photos early evening. Dinner at the Glen Eagle's restaurant in a private room for a get together with Sierra Nevada chapter members.

Carson City Details
(7/9/08)

The Sierra Nevada Chapter is also going out of their way for the 48 in 08 tour participants. On Friday, around 4:00 p.m. we will have our photo op at the Capitol Complex. Afterwards, they have reserved a private room at Glen Eagle's restaurant for dinner.

Accessing Capitol Grounds
(7/9/08)

For those who are unaware, many of the Capitols require special permits to enter Capitol grounds, including our photo ops. It is not easy to make your way through the red tape, or even find the right department to issue the permit. In many cases, the tour organizers have not been able to obtain permits for a number of reasons - including bonds and event liability insurance.

The Sacramento and Sierra Nevada Chapters have obtained permits for the 48 in 08 tour. A few other Chapters are working on this aspect of the tour.

Carson City requires each of our Thunderbirds have a metal drip pan under it when parked on Capitol grounds. The Sierra Nevada Chapter will provide drip pans for at least 10 T-Birds. Thank you! Without the drip pans, even with a permit, our T-Birds would not be allowed on Capitol grounds.

The tour participants will be forever grateful to all of the CTCI Chapters who have assisted in making arrangements for photos of our T-Birds with the Capitol buildings in the background.

Party Time in Erick
(7/1/08)

Doc checked with Annabelle and Harley, the owners of the Sandhills Curiosity Shop in Erick, OK, and they're rolling out the red carpet (well, signs and flags) for the 48 in 08 tour participants! A good time will be had by all on Friday, September 19, in this quaint ol' Route 66 town.

The miles traveled will be the difference in Betsy Bird's odometer readings at the two locations and include all sightseeing, detours, gas and lunch stops, and overnight stays.

Entry forms are also available by clicking the link below. Entries are $1 each or $5 for six entries and can be mailed to Doc, along with your donation, or given to Doc or Lucy when we meet on the tour.
