This is Southern corn bread. It is not Marie Callender's. It is not spongecake. It is not dessert.
It is corn bread.
2 cups of corn meal.
1/2 cup of self-rising flour.
(Add 1 teaspoon of baking powder if flour is not self-rising.
1 teaspoon of baking soda.
1 1/2 - 2 cups of buttermilk.
Mix well. Pour into greased iron skillet.
Bake at 475 degrees for ~25 minutes.
