About the Gallery

The Gallery on Greene is located in downtown Cumberland, Maryland in a building that is over a century old. Before becoming an art gallery it was the office, at one time or another, of an attorney, a beautician, a podiatrist, and a real estate dealer. In 1990 Alexis Lavine, a local watercolor artist, purchased it and renovated it entirely, inside and out, rescuing it from advancing deterioration. Then she filled it with all sorts of wonderful artwork. People started to come, and to enjoy, and to purchase, and to come back. The gallery has been thriving ever since, and serving an ever-expanding group of visitors, collectors, and patrons.

The Gallery on Greene is pleasant, casual, and filled with beautiful art, which is professional in quality, created with skill and conviction, and easy to live with. When you walk in, you are likely to find Alexis at work on a painting in her studio, which is on the premises. She's always ready to talk with you about the art she is making, or any of the art that is on exhibit. She is happy to help you find just the right piece of art for your home or office - or just to chat about art or life in Cumberland. Stop in - in person or on-line - and see for yourself!
