On behalf of the
Discipleship Team; welcome to our site! It is a work in progress and we ask for
your patience in these initial stages, as we continue to develop it. We are open to suggestions, thoughts, and ideas of how
we can continue to expand and improve our site to better serve you as you serve others.
We’re filled
with anticipation as we launch our new feature article series. Each month, a new piece written by various pastors, teachers and leaders across the conference will be
posted on our site; each filled with thought-provoking insight to encourage & inspire you in your commissioned roles of
being a disciple and making new disciples.
We want others within the conference to assist us in carrying out the vision of the Discipleship
Council, which is to lead believers to spiritual maturity so that they will reach others for Christ and teach them to be fully
devoted followers. It is through our work on this council that we have the opportunity
to train, equip, and develop leaders to “go” make disciples.
“Go” is not only intended for those preparing for cross-cultural service or
for vocational ministry, but for each one of us. God places us strategically;
usually it’s right where we are in the workplace, in vocational ministry, in our neighborhood, or even at the soccer
field. Wherever, we have a great opportunity to help make disciples…so
let’s seek God and open our eyes to clearly see those around us.
Several areas that we are specifically responsible for are the Allegheny Summer Intern,
Youth Quest Transportation within our conference, Bible Quizzing, a supportive and active role with “The Call”—a
program for BIC Young Adults within the denomination who are discerning a call to ministry, and our newest addition, H3…Hearing
His Heart which focuses on gatherings for conference young adults that are discerning a call.
Our plans for 2008 include a Second Career Summit for those who are considering a change to vocational ministry.
How can you help us? First, be in prayer for
the Discipleship Team. Second, help us identify potential summer interns and
mentors. Third, send us your input and feedback.
We would love to hear from you! If you have thoughts and ideas to
share with the Discipleship Council, email them to ac_discipleship@yahoo.com.
We anticipate working together with you to further God’s Kingdom.
Journeying together,
Sherri Flohr
