The Allegheny Conference Discipleship Council is pleased to present its 2009 Summer Intern, Krista Wenger.  Krista is the daughter of Daryl and Cheryl Wenger of Fayetteville, PA and calls the New Guilford BIC her home church.  She has completed her junior year at the Shalom Christian Academy and her interests include youth, teaching and worship.

Krista first came to know Jesus as her Savior at the age of three.  “This moment, although it happened when I was very young, is burned into my memory. I was sitting at the kitchen table with my mother doing a Child Evangelism Fellowship brochure that was received via mail. The verse was Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” I remember thinking something along the lines that if it was true that everybody sinned, then we were all going to be separated from God forever. My mom proceeded to tell me about Jesus and how he died on the cross for my sins and that he loved me tremendously; all I had to do was confess my sin to him and ask him to “come into my heart”. I did…”  She was baptized at the age of five.

Krista shares, “I am currently just starting to understand what it really means to follow Jesus whole-heartedly. I just completed in February the four levels of Discipleship Training. I am digging into my Bible daily, and am hungering for more and more of Jesus in my life. I am so thankful to what He has brought me through in these past few years, because I had started going backwards instead of forwards. Luckily, Jesus made himself real to me and saved me from destruction and now He has given me the opportunity to help others facing similar situations that I had faced before. I am determined to reach my fullest potential in Christ.”

On being selected as the 2009 Summer Intern, Krista states, “I really believe that I am called to be in the ministry in some fashion; the exact position is still yet to be determined. I fully believe that God has placed this opportunity before me for a reason, especially since I have been praying for his help and guidance in choosing what position I may serve Him best in and also for opportunities to serve Him with my gifts and talents.”

Krista holds high expectations for this experience.  “I expect to see Him working in my life in various ways that I cannot even imagine at this point in time. I also expect to gain better insight into what all is involved in different aspects of ministry, as well as possibly use this time to find the area(s) that I would serve God best in.”

Krista will be kept busy this summer helping with various camps, VBS and other ministries in Brethren in Christ churches in the Allegheny Conference.  Her complete schedule is available from the conference office upon request
