The Iowa State Fair - what an experience! Our goal was deep fried snickers, twinkies, and oreos: battered
and fried just like a corn dog. YUM! The pork chop on a stick was delicious, barbecued, and very filling.
So much food (over 100 vendors) to enjoy; we had lemonade, root beer, Bauder's peach ice cream, apple pietza (apple slices
and almond slivers on a thin pizza crust), fry bread, and deep fried vegetables - just to name a few. We just couldn't
eat any more in our eight hours at the fair. We walked through the Cultural Center with arts and crafts; the John Deere
Ag. Bldg with flowers, crops, butter cow sculpture, ice sculpture, and more; and the Varied Industries Bldg. with exhibits
of every trade, group, and almost any business imaginable. We listened to a variety of music at the seven outdoor performance
stages. So much more to see - but that will have to wait for another year.
