Reading Peripheral is Devoted to Book Reading for the Vision Impaired.

January 18, 2006.
Business Wire (press release) - San Francisco,CA,USA.

The Book Reader is the only reading peripheral device under $700 that is devoted totally to book reading for the vision impaired. Plustek's Book Reader integrates high-speed scanning, high-quality speech voice and highly accurate text-to-speech and optical character recognition functionality all in one device. Additional features, expressly designed for the vision impaired audience, include: magnify functions, fonts controls, volume controls, speech controls, book mark functions, PDF reading - making this a highly versatile computer companion.

The Book Reader comes with optical character recognition (OCR), and text-to-speech (TTS) software, both of which allow the scanner to copy and "read" the documents scanned. To use these features, the user just simply places a book or document on the screen and at the press of one button, the book is scanned for "reading" pleasure. With a single one-touch button, the Book Reader transforms printed words into audio output, which can be saved in MP3 format for future access.

Embedded OCR guarantees accurate scan results and allows the software to rotate disoriented text to generate a clear message for the user. The unit comes with Plustek-patented SEE(TM) Technology which uses a curved lamp to provide a clear scan of the book without distortion for big, bulky books.
