Free GPS Software For Your Mobile Phone.
Wednesday, July 26, 2006.

Loadstone GPS is Free satellite navigation software developed for Symbian Mobile/phones using the Series60 platform. Although Loadstone-GPS is a useful navigational tool for everyone, it is particularly useful for blind and visually impaired people using screen readers such as Talks (TM) (a Nuance product) and Mobile Speak (TM) (a Code Factory product).

To make the most of the Loadstone GPS program, you need technology such as:

A Symbian (Series 60) mobile (cellular) phone
A Bluetooth GPS receiver
A USB Bluetooth dongle (optional)
A Bluetooth headset (optional)
A Multimedia card (MMC) reader (optional)
A high-capacity Multimedia Card (MMC) (optional)

The latest version of Loadstone GPS is: 0.59, released on 2006-07-17.

What is Loadstone GPS

Loadstone GPS is a free navigational application designed to be used with a Bluetooth GPS receiver and a mobile phone using the Series60 platform on the Symbian operating system.

Loadstone GPS was developed to be a low-cost feature-rich navigational assistant for the blind. At this point in time, it is not as powerful as other GPS-Navigation solutions such as those offered by:

Freedom Scientific: Destinator

Humanware: Trekker and Braillenote GPS

Sendero Group: Keysoft GPS software for the Braillenote GPS

Wayfinder Systems AB: Wayfinder

but we think you will be pleasantly surprised as to how well it works! In fact the core development team relies exclusively on Loadstone as a navigation assistant.

In order to use Loadstone you need the following:

Mobile (cellular) phone running Symbian (Series60)

Access software - Screen reader / Magnifier (if you are blind/visually impaired)

Bluetooth GPS receiver

Although Loadstone-GPS is free to use, it has used up hundreds of development and testing hours since February 2004. In order for us to continue funding this project, adding features, improving functionality, and strengthening the support and documentation we need your help.

Please consider making a donation (Large or small - any amount is gratefully received) and will ensure development of this project continues well into the future.
