A CD-ROM containing over one hundred literary works is the first such production in Cuba, and has been distributed to reading rooms and schools for the blind throughout the entire country.
Novels, short stories, and poetry by authors such as Gabriel Garcia Marquez, Victor Hugo, Mario Benedetti, Edgar Allan Poe, Carlos Fuentes and Julio Cortazar are included in the CD-ROM, according to a National Information Agency (AIN) report.
The works were recorded in National Association for the Blind (ANCI in Spanish) studies, and the Spanish National Organization for Blind and Ecuador s National Federation for the Blind helped acquired the necessary equipment.
ANCI National director Guillermo Rodriguez Llerena said the prior method has been to use audio cassettes, but the CD-ROM format offers greater capacity and quality.
He noted they also have a Braille printing facility for books and publications, including the magazine Faro and ANCI's Bulletin Columnas.
