Ansonia Falls to Southeastern

The Ansonia Tigers were eliminated in the Division IV Sectional Tournament 55-44 by the Southeastern Trojans. Ansonia had a great 3rd quarter to overcome a 16 point half time deficit, but did not have enough on this night to advance to the next game.

Ansonia struggled on offensive in the first half and mustered only 13 points for the half. The young team from Southeastern outscored the Tigers 16 to 5 in the second quarter to take a 29-13 advantage at the break.

The Tigers were able to kick it into gear in the 3rd quarter and outscored the Trojans 20-8 to close the gap within four at the end of the third. Ansonia senior Eric Beisner scored 9 of his game high 19 points in the third to lead the Tiger comeback. Nile Brown nailed two 3s while Kyle Young added one to claw the Tigers within 4 points, 33-37.

Ansonia’s shooting woes resurfaced in the fourth quarter as Southeastern took an 11 – 4 run in the first 4 minutes. An Eric Beisner 2 with just under 4 minutes found the Tigers within 11 points but Southeastern outscored Ansonia 11-5 down the stretch to secure the victory and advance to face Jefferson in the sectional final.
