Cheryl and John McCutcheon
Due to the Collective Bargaining
Agreement (CBA) we signed with Local 1000 of the American Federation of
Musicians,
we committed
to several important guarantees
for the performers we invite to play in our house concert
series. Among these are a healthy meal; a
place to stay if
they need it; and a quiet listening room for
our guests. In addition,
performers always
keep 100% of their CD sales.
Perhaps even more importantly, we have
negotiated a “scale wage” and make a pension contribution on behalf of everyone who performs here. Whether
or not the artists are currently members of Local 1000, this money accrues interest and is available to them when they retire
or become disabled. It is this commitment to the PEOPLE... in addition to their music... that is reflected in our deciding
to become a unionized venue.
We will be posting a video soon that
explains a bit more about “FairFolk” to our guests, singer-songwriters, and other venues considering joining this
effort to support our folk community. In the meantime, feel free to visit www.Local1000.com.
