Our Mission
The purpose of the Tacoma Tsunami Rugby program is to introduce the second most played game in the world, RUGBY,
to as many young people as possible.
To this end, it is the goal of the Tacoma Tsunami Rugby Football Club
to teach basic skills and fundamentals of the game, maintain a policy of no cuts, promote universal participation, utilize
positive reinforcement, foster pride in individual accomplishment, develop and maintain an all inclusive team spirit, encourage
parental involvement and the bottom line, HAVE FUN.
Our History
Over the last 18 years, the Tacoma Nomads Rugby Club has been making great efforts to increase the amount of youth rugby
in the Pierce County Area. Currently the Tacoma Nomads Rugby Club have two youth teams and is always looking to expand
to more area high schools. In the Spring of 1987 the Tacoma Tsunami High School Rugby Club was formed.
It was developed to bring awareness of the game to a larger number of high school students in the Pierce County area. The
Tacoma Nomads Rugby Club currently sponsor the Tacoma Tsunami U-19 Rugby Program. Veteran Nomad player Steve Chanfrau
and Valley Kangaroos RFC oldboys Jeff Hunter and Ric "Zippy" Hall, oversee the program. All boys 19 and under, and
from any high school in the Pierce County area are welcome to come out and play. The Pacific Northwest Rugby Football
Union currently has six other Division 1 and nine Division 2 High School/Club Programs representing its youth program
in Washington. The PNRFU youth season runs from February, when the league season starts, to May, when the USA Rugby High
School Championships take place.
