Jim Lucero's Gallery

Growing up in the desert, a chain saw was an unknown to me.  After moving to Neskowin, Oregon, I needed to cut some trees down.  The logs gave me the inspiration to carve first bears, then an eagle, birds, a pig, a bunny, and even a frog.  They weight in the 200 to 500 lb range. In the winter time it is too wet to use the chain saw so I've taken a class from Larry Wanamaker on how to carve animals in the 2 to 5 oz size.  At 70 years old the smaller size is more practical. Using the chain saw in the rain is no fun, so carving the smaller items keeps me busy in the winter.  Larry has introduced me to the correct techniques and the right tools, to have a creative and fun hobby during the indoor season in Oregon.
