FOUR DOMAINS - the body

When they think of yoga, people often picture someone sitting cross-legged or standing on their head. And of the many different practices in yoga, it is often postures (hatha yoga) that brings people to class... for pain relief, to get in better shape, to reduce stress. And it's true - yoga works wonders! There isn't a system in the body that doesn't benefit from practice. Not only the structure (muscles and bones) of the body, but also the functioning (the physiological processes) benefit from yoga practice. Even the individual cells benefit from greater circulation and oxygen transport. Yoga improves our strength, endurance, balance, agility, and symmetry, as well as flexibility. Yoga brings us into balance so that we can access the body's own natural healing power.

Yoga therapy is the application of specific yoga postures, breathing techniques, and other practices for the healing of illness and injury, as well as for psychotherapy. It is related to physical therapy in some respects but also draws from the wealth of the yoga tradition. Yoga therapy is becoming increasingly popular, either done seperately or integrated into class.

As we begin to open, we come home to live more fully in the body, with its joys and sorrows. The breath also opens and deepens and directly impacts the mind. These are all interconnected and together they purify channels for the life force to flow through us more fully.
