CLASS OF 1979

formerly from Newburg, Pa died June 17, 2004 at home.

Surviving are his parents, Arthur R. Jr. and Glenda M. Finkey Ashway of Newburg; a brother, Michael A. of Chambersburg; and a sister, Pamela S. (Mrs. David) Ambrose of Pittsburgh. Burial was at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, near Chambersburg.

Bill attended Shippensburg University and was employed with Turkey Hill Markets in Lancaster.  He was also a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

I'll bet you didn't know that Bill had the longest damn bus ride to school and back of any one!

If you look at our senior year book   You'll see that I'm fifth alphabetically and Bill is the tenth person.  Well, those of us from A to Ba know that we had almost exactly the same home room in 11th and 12th grade.  We had Mrs Harold in 11th and Mr Harold in 12th.  The people around me and I sat in exactly the same seats both years. I even had the same locker. It was right across the hall on the left end of the section.  Because of it being on the end, no one could open their locker door and block mine.  I thought that was kind of neat.

I sat in the first row inside the door against the wall.  Bill sat right across from me in the next row.  Of course, I was always late in the morning and Mrs. Harold busted me for skipping activities period.  She went looking for me at the gym. one day and it was all over for me.  Good thing it was near the end of the year before she caught me!

Bill's studious behavior was so different than mine.  I either slept or did an outside activity during activities period. He actually did his work.  Anyway, I guess I can say we kind of grew up together.  Of course we were cordial and friendly to each other, but, I don't think he was in any of my classes.  That was pretty much our only interaction.  But, almost every year since seventh grade, there was good ole Bill in home room.

Everyone.   Bill.   I hope I was never rude to you.  I sure hope I was a pleasant person to be around.  I remember you  fondly and I hope I treated you that way.

For Bill Ashway and any of you out there.  I apologize if anything I did or said hurt anyone in any way.  I sure was insecure back then, as I think most teenagers are.  I am still human and I feel human feelings, but I do enjoy growing older and (I hope) wiser.

  More later....
