MISCELLANEOUS FACTS & FIGURES
BARNFATHERS IN UNEXPECTED PLACES
THE FRENCH FOREIGN LEGION
The Carlisle Journal of September 2nd, 1932, reported that 'B. Barnfather,'
who was born in Carlisle, had related his experiences after joining the French Foreign Legion in 1925.
Apparently, Mr. Barnfather lost his job (he was working in London) and made the trip to
France where he was able to join the Legion. He served for 5 years and was awarded a medal for the Riff Campaign in
Morocco in 1926.
It would appear that this might be Bell Barnfather, born in Carlisle in 1900,
descended from the Barnfathers of Laversdale, Irthington. If anyone has more information about B. Barnfather,
please contact me at the email link below.
A POOR WOMAN IN DUBLIN
In 1691, widow Jane Barnfeather (alias Woodfall), who was elderly and
sick, was awarded a pension to help in her support.
