OBITUARY--Leslie Eugene "Gene" Renner, son of Rev. Ray L. and Hazel [Burris] Renner born Jan. 30 1951 Knox County, IN Wheatland d. Feb. 14, 2003, Daviess County, Washington, Vincennes, Sun-Commercial, Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003

WASHINGTON-- Leslie Eugene "Gene" Renner, 52, Washington, died at 1 p.m., Friday, Feb. 14, 2003, at his home. Born Jan. 30, 1951, he was the son of Rev. Ray L. and Hazel Marie [Burris] Renner.

He attendend Wheatland schools and was a member of Ebeneezer Baptist Church. Survivors include two aunts, Thelda Mae Killion, Brunswick, Ohio, and Katie Parker, Vincennes; an uncle, James Burris, Washington; and several cousins. His parents and a brother are deceased.

The funeral will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Gill Chapel by Rev. Jim Russell. Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Gill Funeral Home.

 

Clarence Roseberry, Jr.

WASHINGTON – [Former Wheatland resident] Clarence Elmo  Roseberry, Jr. 57, Washington died at 12:05 a.m. today at Good Samaritan Hospital here.
 
A glass worker for 30 years, he was employed at Washington Auto Glass for eight years.  He was a member of the Wheatland United Methodist Church, Monroe City Lodge 548 F&AM, the Scottish Rite and Hadi Shrine of Evansville, Daviess County Shrine Club, National Rifle Association, Bruceville Rod and Gun Club, Oaktown Gun Club and American Legion Post 73, Vincennes.
 
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Roseberry of Wheatland; a son, Steven A. Roseberry of Washington; two sisters, Florence Butler of Indianapolis and Barbara Powell of Elyria, Ohio; and one grandchild.
The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at the Gill Funeral Home in Washington.  Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery.
 
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home, where a Masonic memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m.

Ben Rickets

ARDMORE, Okla – [former Wheatland resident]  Ben Rickets, 73, former Indiana state representative, died here Saturday night after a brief illness.
 
Born in Ardmore on Nov. 12, 1911, he was the son of Benjamin C. and Josephine [Gray] Rickets.  He was married to Faye Welton, who survives.
 
A Knox County farmer since 1950, he had also served as a field engineer for Gulf Oil Company and owned the Wheatland Insurance, Co.
Rickets served in the Indiana General Assembly from 1963 to 1969 and as Steen Township Trustee for eight years.
 
Rickets was a driving influence to have an Indiana memorial erected at Gettysburg, Pa., to honor Hoosier Civil War veterans.  He was appointed to the task by former Gov. Matthew Welsh.  Until that time, Indiana was the only state that had sent soldiers into the war but without a monument.
 
He was a member of the Elks, Rotary and Masons.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Harvey Funeral Home here, with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery.

OBITUARY Feb. 24, 2003 ALBERTA J. DECKARD
 
WHEATLAND,Alberta J. Deckard, 81, Wheatland, died at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003, at home.

Born July 14, 1921, in Broadlands, Ill., she was the daughter of Ancil and Shirley (Fogleman) Eastin.

She was a homemaker and a member of the Wheatland United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Survivors include her husband, D. Robert Deckard, whom she married June 28, 1941; a son, Larry R. Deckard of Wheatland; a daughter, Sandra A. Baker of Wheatland; three sisters, Aline Tate and Mabel Williamson, both of Newman, Ill., and Joyce Nussell of Matoon, Ill.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.

Two brothers are deceased.

The funeral will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Goodwin Funeral Home by the Rev. Don Wilson. Burial will be in Wheatland Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brady Deckard, Aaron Deckard, Colby Deckard, Ryan Baker, Rhett Baker, and Bill Ash.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, with an Order of the Eastern Star service at 5 p.m.

Memorial contributions may be made to Lincoln Trail Hospice
 
 
Cora Jane Scott
December 12, 1981
 
WHEATLAND – Cora Jane Scott 98, of Wheatland, died at 10:45 p.m. Saturday at the residence of a daughter, Ermal Collins of Linton.
She was born June 28, 1883, Monroe City, daughter of William and Sarah Greenwood Myers, and was the widow of Samuel G. Scott.  She was a member of the Christian Church and the Coffee Club in Wheatland, where she was a resident most of her life.
 
Survivors include four daughters, Hazel Hall of New Goshen, Ermal R. Collins of Linton, Mary O’Neill of Indianapolis, and Grace E. Miner of Detroit, Mich.; three sons, Sammie J. and Lyle E. Scott of Wheatland and Lester Scott of Martinsville; 19 grandchildren including Sammie K. Scott whom she reared; 40 great-grandchildren; and 20 great-great-grandchildren.  One son and two brothers preceded her in death.
The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the Wheatland Christian Church with Rev. Larry Harden officiating and burial in the Wheatland Cemetery.  Friends may call at the McClure Funeral Home, Bicknell Chapel, after 1 p.m. today and at the church after 11 a.m. Tuesday.

Cora Jane Scott
December 15, 1981
 
WHEATLAND – Funeral services for Cora Jane Scott were conducted today at 1 p.m. at the Wheatland Christian Church with burial in the Wheatland Cemetery.  The Rev. Larry Harden officiated with Toni Kelso as organist and Lynn Rasner as soloist.
 
Pallbearers were Mark Scott, Brett Scott, Matt Scott, Bruce Scott, Sam Scott, and Hal Hall.

Lyle E. Scott
August 27, 1989
 
WHEATLAND – Lyle E. Scott, 68, Wheatland died at 10:22 p.m. Friday, August 25, 1989 at Good Samaritan Hospital.
 
A former employee at the Naval Weapons Support Center, Crane, and a World War II Army veteran, he was a member of the Wheatland Christian Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3321 Washington, American Legion Post 73 in Vincennes and Indianapolis Battery of the China-Burma-India Veterans Association.
 
He was born May 27, 1921, in Wheatland to Samuel G. and Cora Jane [Myers] Scott.
 
Surviving are his wife, the former Shirley Ann Arvin; a son, Bruce Edward Scott, and a daughter, Deborah Scott, both of Sheridan; a stepdaughter, Lisa Wilson of Welsco, Texas; two stepsons, Brad Wilson of Edinburg, Texas, and John Wilson of Canton, Miss.; two sisters, Hazel Hall of New Goshen and Mary O’Neill of Southport; a brother, Lester Scott, Martinsville, and eight grandchildren.  Two brothers, two sisters, and a son are deceased. 
 
[Also, surviving Margie M. Scott, 1st wife of 25 years and the mother of his children: Gordon L. [deceased], Bruce E., and Deborah A. Scott].
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Wheatland Christian Church, with burial in Wheatland Cemetery.
 
Friends may call from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday and until noon Tuesday at the Brockman Funeral Home in Wheatland, then after 1 p.m. at the church.
