How many people remember........

The best place to go swimming when we were kids: was the creek behind the Cemetery..........

The best place to go sleding in the winter: was the same Cemetery.  It had the best hills...........

The best place to go fishing was the Old Mine Pond...........

Going to Church Camp at Camp Illiana..........

Going to Bible School........

Riding your bike down the big hill [550] across main street dogging traffic and not stopping till you got to Wayne Littell's DX Station........
I did it riding on the handle bars with no brakes!!.........yiks!!!.........Debbie Like was driving...............

Remember, Halloween's at Ms. Lisseth Meuser's?  She would make cookies, candy, and all kinds of snacks.  She would play the piano and we would play games.  All the kids, loved her, as much as, she loved us..............We had so much fun..............

Remember. soaping the businesses store windows and toilet papering the town.........Was lots of fun but the next morning we had to wash all those soaped windows and clean up all the toilet paper.......ugh!, the fun was over...................That was when Wheatland actually had businesses on main street................................

What about all the Hayrides and Weinnie Roast's...............

Remember when you could collect pop bottles and take them to the main street grocery and get money or trade for candy, chips, pop, and other items..........I had 3 baskets on my bike for collecting bottles..........

Remember how much you could buy for a nickel ..........

How many remember Donkey Basketball Games?.........

How many remember we were the Wheatland Jeeps, [Jeep-Jeep] and our symbol was the little Jeep from Popeye cartoon............

Remember, after school and every Sunday after church; we would all go to the B & R Drugstore for a fountain soda..............

Remember when stamps were 3 cents.................

How many of us worked in the fields:  planting and picking watermelons, gleaning corn, picking strawberries...............

Remember all the Ice Cream Socials at the Christian Church............All the good food and the best part was.......THE HOME-MADE ICE CREAM.................yum, yum......................

Remember going to the Coffee Club?...................usually held at a neighbors home..................

How many of us, remember the old buck eye tree at the Grade School? ........................How many buck eyes did you take home?  I took pockets full home............................

How many sat in the pee-gravel at the Grade School and collected Indian beads?.....................

Remember the free glasses and towels you use to get in your laundry detergant......................

Remember Trading Stamps...........

How many of us attended or played in the many baseball games at the park.............and the family reunions held at the park.............Now the park has been closed due to vandelism.......Very sad thing............Now we have no place for our kids to play..............

We never knew vandelism when I was young..........It was very rare..............Everyone, respected another persons property.................Remember back then, we never had to lock our doors.....................Now we can't have enough locks and alarms..........

Remember Poodle Skirts and Saddle Oxford shoes.......................

Remember when the "Beatles" first appeared on the Ed Sullivan Show.............

I remember in the winter, my parents would put the garden hose in the old Steen Ditch and the water would freeze smooth enough; that all the kids in the neighborhood would come to ice skate.................and in the summer we would all try to build boats and sail down that old creek and of course, they would sink..............

How many remember these shows................Howdy Doody, Ed Sullivan Show, Sammie Terri Hour, Janie Show with Lamb Chops, Captian Kangaroo, Green Acres, Petticoat Junction, Red Skelton Show, Jackie Gleason Show, I Love Lucy, Dick Van Dick Show, Leave It To Beaver, Cecil and Beanie Show, Soupy Sails, My Three Sons, Lost in Space, Jack Benny Show, Lassie, Dark Shadows, Green Hornet, Batman and Robin, Old James Bond, Old Star Trek...................

Remember when our town use to have their own town parades and cookouts................town get-to-gethers.............

Remember Easter egg hunts at the church................

Remember the summer recreation events held at the grade school and high school.  You could participate in sports like archory, base or basket ball, tennis.  You could participate in crafts and many other things............Similar to the 4-H Clubs..............We need to have something like this again for our kids in town.  It could be held at the Park...................Our kids need something to do and someplace to go in the summer months..................

Remember water ballons and the clothes pin/playing card we use to put on the spokes of our bikes...............made us sound real cool.............

How many of us today could disassemble our bike and put it back together again.......................

Remember Slinky's and Yo-Yo's.............Barbie Dolls and GI Joe's.........Pog-O-Sticks and Walking Stilts..............................

Remember when every business closed at 5 p.m. on Friday..............Nothing was open on week-ends, except the Hospital and a few selected restaurants..............You better have your gas and groceries by 5 p.m. on Friday, because nothing was open........................

Remember going window shopping on main street on week-ends...........
