TO: Members of Long Beach Desk & Derrick Club
This is the 53rd year you have been greeted by a new President. This beginning is only different
because we want it to be. I chose "Enlightenment for Growth" as our theme for 2005. Just how are we to implement
this in our activities?
Both Enlightenment and Growth have several descriptions.
Enlightenment: reliance on reason and experience rather than dogma and tradition, and
emphasis on humanitarian goals and social progress.
Growth: of course, the physical change as we grow into adults. Growth is developing our
mental skills as we gain knowledge... An outgrowth or offshoot sends us on another journey of growth.
I believe that this is, indeed, just another manner of expressing our motto: "Greater
Knowledge - Greater Service."
As we meet in the Board Meeting and in the Membership Meeting, I hope each one of you
will present ideas that will result in the steady increase (growth) of membership in our club.
