| Day
11
Dear Diary,
It was another VERY HOT day today,
oh Diary. But, it also was another VERY EXCITING day today, too!
My sweet Faith took us down to the river to swim: Sunny, bad Jemma, and
ME. Penny, the silly cat, came too. She thought we did not
see her, but I did. Penny sneaked behind us all the way down, and
watched us at the river from up high in a tree.
Donkeys do not like to swim,
oh Diary, but there is lovely, cool mud at the river that makes wonderful
squishing sounds when I step in it and it is so nice to roll in.
Faith rides Sunny right into the river and they swim in the deepest part.
When they come out, Sunny shakes himself like a big dog, and last time,
Faith fell off splat! right back in the river! Jemma swims,
too, but cannot swim too close to Sunny, because Sunny does not like her
right there at his nose. I should say not, smelly Jemma! Sunny
charges like a race horse after he comes out of the river--he feels funny
with all the water dripping off him, he says. It makes him feel like
running very fast, and Faith loves it. She clings to his back with
her legs and clutches onto Sunny's thick mane, and off they go down the
path! Then, soon they are back, and Sunny goes swimming again.
After Sunny raced off with Faith,
Jemma desperately trying to keep up with them (which she CAN'T, HA on Jemma!)
I waited for the water to become clear again, and then I had a nice, long
drink of the river. Oh, Diary, what do you think I saw? A turtle
stuck on its back, under the water! The turtle was flaying its little
arms and legs trying to turn over and swim away, but it could not!
I, Burrito, the Hero, saw what was the matter--the turtle was CAUGHT UNDER
A BRANCH! It could not move! What did Burrito, the TRUE HERO,
do next? Oh, Diary, I stuck my head under the water and bit that
branch HARD! I felt it snap under my good, sharp teeth, and then
I pulled the branch out from the river and dropped it on the mud.
The turtle righted itself and pulled itself onto the mud where it closed
its eyes for a minute and took a deep breath.
"Thank you," the turtle
said to me, Burrito, the TRUE HERO. "You are a wonder, you are!
I don't know what I would have done! If there ever is anything I
can do for you, don't think twice about asking. Just come on down
to the river and ask for Tealman, that's me!"
"I need no reward," I said, proudly.
"I am a Hero and Heroes do not take rewards."
"Well, now, fancy that!
I was rescued by a true hero!" Mr. Tealman said, admiringly. "Just
the same, Hero, if you ever need any help, we turtles will be there for
you. Just mention my name to any turtle--there sure to know me.
Oh, here comes that yellow giant that pinned that branch on me with his
big, flat hoof! I'm off! Thanks again, Hero, and remember what
I said--just ask for Tealman!"
The turtle swam off just as Sunny
and Faith galloped back into view, and I, Burrito, the TRUE HERO, stood
in the cool mud, nibbled on the juicy branch, and thought about what had
just happened. I, Burrito, was now friend and HERO of the turtles!
That is all.
Goodbye from Burrito

Dear Diary,
After our lovely day at the river,
I am very sleepy, and am now on my nice, warm straw bed. But I am
not too sleepy to say this to you, "I, Burrito, was a TRUE HERO today!
And without a Magic Cape! But, oh Diary, I still want a Magic Cape
so that I can fly. My sweet Faith told me that she saw a rainbow
yesterday evening over the river, and now I have thought of a plan!
Unicorns drink nothing but rainbow water, and the river should still have
a lovely puddle of rainbow water left in it somewhere! So, tomorow,
I will go to the river and ask Tealman and all the turtles to find that
rainbow puddle and watch for the Unicorn for me!
That is all.
Goodnight from Burrito
