| Day 6
Dear Diary,
Faith does not know where I can
find the Unicorn, the most magic animal, who can make my beautiful red
cape magic, so that I can FLY.
Sunny does not know where to
look, either. I did not bother to ask Jemma. She would not
know. And that cat Penny never hangs around long enough to ask.
Always out prowling around getting into fights with other cats and then
going inside the house to sleep, sleep, sleep. That is all cats ever
do.
The silly hens don't even know
what a Unicorn is, poor things. But, oh, Diary, I should not call
them silly. They can't help being chickens, and they call me "Sir,"
and bring me little gifts--little bouquets of chickweed, mostly (very tasty
chickweed). But, still, there is no point in asking the hens about
Unicorns.
I will find that Unicorn.
I read about Unicorns in one of Faith's books. Unicorns eat four
leaf clovers, golden apples, and pink cherry blossoms. Unicorns eat
at midnight, and they only drink water from a rainbow. Oh Diary,
I, Burrito, have thought of a plan. I will trap a Unicorn
by setting out its favourite food and watching from out the window at midnight.
When the Unicorn comes to eat, I will rush out and ask the Unicorn to make
my cape magic!
Today, I will find four leaf
clovers to make my Unicorn trap. I know where there is a lot of clover,
so much clover that I know I will find many four leaf clovers. I
will set them out tonight! But, oh Diary, I do not know where to
find any golden apples, and there are only pink cherry blossoms in springtime,
and it is August already. And there are no rainbows in the sky today
either, so where am I to find rainbow water?
Think. I must think about
this VERY HARD. But, I am hungry, oh Diary, and it is hard for donkeys
to think when they are hungry.
I have a PLAN! I did not
have to think very hard at all! Today I will eat all the regular
three leaf clovers and leave the four leaf clovers for the Unicorn!
That is how I will begin my trap! The Unicorn will see a big patch
of all four leaf clovers and come flying down and eat and eat! Then,
I will ask her to make my lovely red cape MAGIC so that I can FLY!
That is all.
Goodbye from Burrito
Day
7 morning entry
Dear Diary,
I do not feel well at all today,
oh Diary. Donkeys should not eat so much clover. Yesterday,
I ate and ate and ate but did not find one single four leaf clover.
Then I got a HORRIBLE STOMACH ACHE. Faith called the doctor who gave
me AWFUL medicine and today I must rest in my nice straw bed all day long.
I am very tired and I do not want to be a hero or find the Unicorn today.
The hens have been very nice to me: they brought me a gift of some worms
and said, "We are sorry you are sick, Sir." But, oh Diary, I do not
like worms and I think I will never eat ANYTHING again. EVER.
Especially not clover.
That is all.
Goodbye from Burrito
PS Sunny was NOT HAPPY
that I ate all his favourite clover. I am not happy either.
I am VERY SORRY.

| Day
7 evening entry
Dear Diary,
Guess who is happy? The
worms the hens brought me are because I told them that I will not eat them.
(Donkeys do not eat worms, oh Diary.) One of them told me that he
has seen the Unicorn at night eating four leaf clovers in our own field!
No wonder I could not find any four leaf clovers, the Unicorn had already
eaten them all! The worms have promised me that they will keep their
eyes open for any four leaf clovers and show me them--worms are nice and
low to the ground so they can see four leaf clovers easier than donkeys
can. They do not have to eat all the other regular clover
around to look for four leaf clovers. But, I can not wait for more
four leaf clovers to grow, oh Diary. Instead, I must find golden
apples to trap the Unicorn. Some nice, crunchy, juicy, golden apples.
Mmmm. I wonder if Faith
will bring me a nice red apple today. I think a good, crunchy apple
would make my stomach feel better. Oh Diary, I am a little hungry
now. A juicy plum would be good, too. I wonder if Unicorns
like plums? I know I do . . .
Faith! FAITH!
I hear lovely Faith coming from
the house--she will bring me a plum or two, and maybe a crispy, crunchy,
juicy red apple, too.
That is all.
