Below photo of Bairs Creek 1942

Bairs Creek is the only creek that actually ran through the camp. It was located at the southwest
corner of Manzanar within the barbed wire perimeter of the camp. The camp director felt it would be nice for its internees
to be able to have this creek run through the camp for their enjoyment. Positioned at its southwest corner was also one of
the eight 40' guard towers which was manned by guards with machine guns and search lights. Ironically, many of the internees
would use the cover of the ravine created by the creek to sneak out under the barbed wire without being noticed.
