George Creek water contained both rainbow and brown trout. The water from the creek was also diverted to irrigate the agricultural areas where the internees grew fresh fruits and vegetables. By the 2nd year of the camps existence, Manzanar was self sufficient in providing its own source of produce and became independent from outside sources.
