1943 Radar detected a highflying plane over England and tracked it until it went down somewhere in South Eastern France. If this is an enemy super-long range bomber, then Downtown USA will be Hitler’s next target!
The PCs are members of a bomber crew that is part of the 918th Bomb Group
(H) [H refers to Heavy]. The 918th is commanded by Brigadier General Frank Savage. This is the fictional unit and commander
from the movie "Twelve O'Clock High." Bomber Crews developed a relationship in which teamwork meant your life. Personality
conflicts that could not be resolved during training resulted in a crew member being transferred to another crew. Individual
gunner positions on a crew may be traded. The crew positions for a B-17F are: Pilot, Co-Pilot, Navigator, Bombardier,
Flight Engineer/Top Turret Gunner, Radio Operator/Gunner, Port Waist Gunner, Right Waist Gunner, Ball Turret Gunner, and Tail
Gunner. The Navigator and Bombardier also operated a single .50 caliber machine gun in the nose and two more in the "cheek"
that is just to the rear and left and right of the nose position. It was not unusual for the gunners to switch positions
sometimes during combat. The ball turret is very cramped and exposed position in which the smallest gunner was
assigned.
