The Adventure! - Take A Stand
What is The Adventure? There are two major goals in The Adventure and two minor goals. With all of these goals, there will be some that will choose to participate strictly over the Internet. There will be some will choose to participate off-line and in person. There will be some will choose to do both. Some may choose to participate in just one of the goals, some may choose to participate in many. It is all up to you. You can participate in whatever you feel comfortable with, and when and where the Spirit leads you. When you join The Adventure, you will be joining a group of people who share the same goals and are here to help each other achieve those goals. There will be newbies in our group that need to learn and old veterans that can easily teach. There will be several ways that you will be able to interact with others, both Christian and non-Christian: 1) A new open forum, message board where Christians and non-Christians can discuss the truth of Christianity. 2) A secure "Members Only" message board where members of The Adventure can exchange ideas, tips and experiences, in order to help each other become better apologists and Christians. 3) A private chat room for members of The Adventure to have a cup of coffee and exchange ideas. 4) Eventually, when we get enough members, in enough places, I foresee monthly get togethers in member homes. I have been holding such a meeting in my home for the last 18 years. I am also a member of another group that has been meeting in a friends home for the last 25 years. Both meetings have been a real blessing for me and the others who attended. 5) There will also be those from our group who will team up to take our message of eternal life in Christ to other forums. Consider the members of The Adventure as friends and colleagues, who share with one another, support one another and learn from one another. Apologists are always learning. I hope that we will be able to develop members who specialized in different specific areas and who will be able to keep us all up to speed in those areas.
Our Goals The first major goal is the use of apologetics to help lead people passed their intellectual obstacles and to the cross of Christ. This is one on one evangelism, on and/or off the internet. If we examine the book of Acts, we discover that every sermon preached within its pages has some aspect of apologetics in it. The apostles always offer one or more reasons for the people who are hearing the sermon to believe it is true, to believe that what is being preached is actually an accurate representation of reality. The second major goal of our adventure is to bring about a sea-change or paradigm shift in society. Although there was never a time when there was no debate on the existence of God or the resurrection of Jesus, throughout the majority of western history we find that what was considered the rational position was the Christian position. A major sea-change has occurred in the last hundred years or so, against Christianity. It is through apologetics that we can reverse this tide and bring about another change. Most of the mass media now portrays those who believe in the historical Christian faith as illiterate, emotional, backwoods Bible thumpers. Through apologetics we can set that characterization on its ear. It is through this sea-change that the apologist opens up the minds of the populace to the message of the evangelist. The first minor goal is to build up the faith of the saints. As in the first century, so it is today that many temptations to leave the faith surrounds the Church. These temptations call out to the weak, the young and the hurting members of Christ’s body. It is apologetics that gives the intellectual foundation to affirm with Peter, "Where else are we to go? Only you, Jesus, have the words of eternal life." The second minor goal is a sad one, it is leaving men without excuse. We are to present the best case for our position. We are to reason with, persuade and convince people of Christ’s claims wherever and whenever we can using logic and rational thought. When we have done that and the person still refuses to come to the cross of Christ, then we must, with gentleness and humility, make sure that this person and any others that may be watching understand that this rejection of Christ is not because of any intellectual objections. We must show that this rejection of Christ is indeed an irrational rejection. We must make it clear that the rational position rests on the side of Christ and that this person is left without intellectual excuse. Take The First Step This is open to all Christians who want to share the message of Jesus Christ with a dying world. The first step is easy: send me an email with some background and the areas of apologetics you are interested in. I will reply to your email with your login to the private forum and the chat room. That is all there is to it. If at any time you decide this is not for you, just let me know and all your information will be deleted. I look forward to hearing from you, G. Brady Lenardos |
