How to use this web site

As stated elsewhere, this web site is a resource for Christians, to aid them in the apologetic endeavor. Before I explain how to use this site, I think it only proper to first examine the purposes of Christian Apologetics. Yes, I said purposes, because there is more than one purpose and the way you use this site will depend on which purpose you have chosen to pursue at any given time.

The first purpose of apologetics is evangelism. As I see it this would be the primary purpose. The idea is to help a person go from where he is and lead him by the hand to the foot of the cross, where he can meet Jesus face to face. If we examine the book of Acts, we discover that every sermon preached within its pages has some aspect of apologetics in it. The apostles always offer one or more reasons for the people who are hearing the sermon to believe it is true, to believe that what is being preached is actually an accurate representation of reality.

The second purpose of apologetics is to build up the faith of the saints. As in the first century, so it is today that many temptations to leave the faith surrounds the Church. These temptations call out to the weak, the young and the hurting members of Christ’s body. It is apologetics that gives the intellectual foundation to affirm with Peter, "Where else are we to go? Only you, Jesus, have the words of eternal life."

The third purpose of apologetics is to bring about a sea-change or paradigm shift in society. Although there was never a time when there was no debate on the existence of God or the resurrection of Jesus, throughout the majority of western history we find that what was considered the rational position was the Christian position. A major sea-change has occurred in the last hundred years or so, against Christianity. It is through apologetics that we can reverse this tide and bring about another change. Most of the mass media now portrays those who believe in the historical Christian faith as illiterate, emotional, backwoods Bible thumpers. Through apologetics we can set that characterization on its ear.

The forth purpose of apologetics is a sad one, it is leaving men without excuse. We are to present the best case for our position. We are to reason with, persuade and convince people of Christ’s claims wherever and whenever we can using logic and rational thought. When we have done that and the person still refuses to come to the cross of Christ, then we must, with gentleness and humility, make sure that this person and any others that may be watching understand that this rejection of Christ is not because of any intellectual objections. We must show that this rejection of Christ is indeed an irrational rejection. We must make it clear that the rational position rests on the side of Christ and that this person is left without intellectual excuse.

With all that said, here are some ways of using this web site:

  1. Referencing an article – I suggest you read as many of the articles on the Ultimate Christian Apologetics WebSite as possible. Then choose several of your favorites. There are times when you are using the Internet you may want to reference one of these articles:

    1. You may want to suggest someone in a chat room take a look at an article.
    2. You may want to reference the article in a discussion on a message board.
    3. You may be using e-mail to witness to a friend.

The way you want to suggest your friend find the article is to give them the name of the article and the URL to the topic page of the web site. For instance, when I refer someone to my article on the existence of God, I ask that person to look at the article entitled " The Existence of God" by G. Brady Lenardos on the web page:

http://home.earthlink.net/~gbl111/philosop.htm

The reason I do this, and you should do it too, is because I want the person to see that there is a wealth of arguments and intelligent authors out there. I want to give the person the opportunity to look over other arguments on the same topic. I want to take away from that person the idea that Christianity is just believed by backwoods Bible thumpers. If I were to just link the person directly to the article, he would not have these opportunities.

         2. Signature Files – Many e-mail software packages allow you to prepare
a several sentences that will appear at the bottom of your email messages

automatically. There are called signature files.

Many people use these files to put their name and address or a phone number. But they can also be used to put a P.S. message. You can add an eye catching phrase, such as: "Find out why I am a Christian.

    Go to: http://home.earthlink.net/~gbl111"

Another one might be: "Christians are thinkers too!

    For details go to: http://home.earthlink.net/~gbl111

  1. Link to The Ultimate Christian Apologetics WebSite from your web site or your church’s web site.

  2.

  3. You can give out the URL to other members of your Church or Bible study group. Remember the more people that have access to this material, the better. We want as many Christian as possible to know this material and grow in their faith.

Well, there you have a few ways to help get the word out and to present a sound, rational argument for the Christian faith. If you come up with some other ideas and would like to share them, please drop me a note and I will include them in the next update.
