HORIZON | PERCEPTION | LIGHT | MOVEMENT
“Seas and Skies” is a piece in an ongoing series of video installation works. The presentation of each work
is influenced, or modified by the particular space.
This installation is about the skies and the water themselves, but it is also about movement, light and perception.
These videos are composites of incongruous waters and skies. With these pairings, the realism and perspective often inherent
in landscape/seascape paintings and photographs begin to shift within the frame.
The idea of the ‘horizon line’ is questioned and the scenes lose their context and become anonymous. It is no
longer about a place, but becomes about the movement, light and the universal aspects of the elements and perception.
By pushing the limits of the frame, and emphasizing the interior architectural elements, my goal is to create an environment
that becomes sculptural, visual and experiential.
Video footage included in this exhibit:
Water: Atlantic Ocean, Pacific Ocean, Massachusetts’ bays and harbors
Skies: In and around the Boston area, flying over the South East, stars and Aurora Borealis north of Fairbanks, Alaska
All footage filmed and edited by Georgie Friedman, 2006-2008
