Staying Stateside This Year ...

2005 has been a different cruising year. We opted to stay stateside traveling along the east coast down to the Florida Keys, then sailed north along the southwestern coast and even ventured across the state on a trip across the Okeechobee Waterway. It has been a fun-filled expedition and an enjoyable cruising season.

We managed some lengthy stops in Miami, Marathon and visited most of the islands in and around Ft. Myers enjoying much of what the areas had to offer. Our traveling partners, again this year were Terry and Peggy Zieglar who hail from Deltaville, VA aboard Attitude, their Island Packet 350. We make a great team, enjoy each others company and seem to share alot of the same interests.

Our early December departure from Brunswick had us making tracks south quickly in search of warmer weather. At first we traveled about fifty miles per day, then settled back to thirty miles as we found the sunny and warmer days of southern Florida.

Ft. Lauderdale and Miami are always exciting areas for those that love being around the water and we soon found ourselves relaxed and enjoying life. Marathon Key became our home for a month as we used it as our base while visiting the Keys. The west coast proved to be very shallow and full of crab pots but we enjoyed Naples and Ft. Myers before heading back to the east coast.
The Okeechobee Waterway was refreshing! We witnessed a unique and different lifestyle and experienced the locks and exhiliarating act of having Gypsy Common "tipped" in order to clear the infamous railroad bridge at Ft. Mayaca.

Capturing some of the more memorable destinations, and the people, was made easy via digital camera. You can enjoy more of our travels by using the Links provided.
