Scholarship
Criteria The Hispanic Organization for Genealogy And Research (HOGAR) promotes interest in Hispanic heritage within our community, stimulates interest in Hispanic genealogy, supports genealogy sections of libraries, and assists members in research and publication of genealogical data through networking, educational programs, special events and newsletters. STUDENT ELIGIBILITY: · Must be a graduating senior of Hispanic heritage · Must plan to attend an accredited two or four year college the following fall · Must allow the essay to be published in the Journal of HOGAR · Must submit letter of acceptance from the university/college, if selected as the recipient (The award will be sent directly to the college/university.) · Grade point average is not a factor ·
Must meet all requirements of essay and pedigree chart DEADLINE APPLICATION: - Must be received on or before May 04, 2013 APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS: ·
Pedigree Chart: Trace four generations of your paternal (father’s) and maternal (mother’s)
lineages, starting with yourself, - place their names and the rest of the data requested on Pedigree Chart attached –
(Do not create your own Pedigree Chart – use the one provided) If you are from a single parent home, start the pedigree
chart with your legal guardian, instead of yourself, and trace his/her paternal and maternal lineages. ·
ESSAY: The essay must include Historical Events within
the life-time of your parents, grandparents and great-grandparent whose name appear on your “Pedigree Chart”. The conclusion should also include the challenges you faced in searching for your
ancestors. The essay must be 500-1000 words with all sources properly footnoted. AMOUNT OF SCHOLARSHIP AWARD: One student will be awarded $1000 for tracing four generations
of his/her paternal and maternal lineages, and submitting all requirements
as specified above – not meeting requirements of the essay (including historical events), and pedigree chart will disqualify
