Are you ready to become a WebMaster? Did your check all your pages with your browser? Verify there are no missing images, messed-up spacing, or broken links (<A href>)? Did you close all your appropriate tags with a </{not tag}>? (Always check images & links even if you us a WYSIWYG program!)
Good! Then we are ready to post your web site on the World Wide Web!

So far you have we need to FTP your web pages to your ISP's server. Don't be intimidated by the big words, as the program to do this is really rather small, only 412K byte if you decide to use what I use. But first look at your computer's programs and see if you already have a "Web Publisher" or something to this respect. If so, you may want to explore it's features and just use it. I however will be specifically referring to a small, FREE (provided you use it for only non-profit or Government use!) program called "Ws_ftp32.exe" (if you are using Win31 or older AOL software, make sure you download "Ws_ftp16.exe" - the differences are mox-nix just get the right one for your system). If you are a MAC user you might try "Fetch".
There are also several other good FTP Programs but to find one you can use for free I recommend going to http://www.cnet.com or http://www.zdnet.com and click on "Downloads". From there just enter "Ws_ftp"
(enter "FTP" for many others to choose) into the search field and hit "Enter". Choose the one you want and install it.

Next we have to Register your new web site with your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Just go to your ISP's "Member's HOME Page" and find their link for registering your "Free Web Space", make sure you have thought of a name for your web site!
They will send you some very important information that you will want to print out in order to setup the FTP program and log on to your web site. You will need:
Your User's Name
Your User's Password
Your URL
(Uniform Resource Locator, this will be your "http://www.something")
You will also be given some specific information about their computer that you will enter into your FTP program. As each ISP's system is slightly different you will have follow their provided directions.

The rules of FTPing your files are simple:
        1) When sending .html files, click on "x" ASCII
        2) When sending all others click on "x" Binary

(see, you don't even have to know what ASCII or Binary mean!)

A typical FTP program will look something like this:
Your Computer If you FTP your HTML to your ISP in ASCII and JPG, GIF, ZIP, TAR, MID, WAV, DAT, TXT, DCR, AVI, AUX, and EXE in BINARY using your URL not your e-mail; What time would it be in Switzerland? - You are spending way too much time reading these 'alternative' pop-ups! Your ISP's Computer

Your computer will be the Local System and your ISP's computer will be the Remote System. The rest is just sending a file to a floppy disk! Only remember that ASCII/BINARY setting.

So what ever FTP program you decide to go with or weather you have a built-in Web Publisher with you software already; Happy FTPing!
