"My real log is written in the sea and sky; it can’t be photographed and given to others.  It has gradually come to life out of all that has surrounded us for months: the sounds of water on the hull, the sounds of wind gliding on the sails, the silences full of secret things between my boat and me, like the times I spent as a child listening to the forest talk."   (from The Long Way by Bernard Moitessier)

We are Ana Maria and Fred Jackson.  This is our web site.  Welcome!

Amante is a Catalina 36.  She is hull number 2209, and is configured with the tall rig and fin keel.  She was built in the summer of 2004.  We purchased her on August 31, 2004, and took delivery on October 8, 2004.  She's a documented U.S. vessel, but her home port is in Sarnia, Ontario, Canada.  The blue paint is Awlgrip's "Aristo Blue." Amante is our sixth sailboat, and our fourth Catalina.

The Name:  "Amante" means mistress in Spanish, Ana Maria's native language.  According to her, if your husband must have a mistress, it's best if she's made of fiberglass.  Hence the name.  Our former boat, a Catalina 320, bore the same name.

Our home port:
Bridgeview Marina (photo below) docks nearly 600 boats.  It includes both the cross shaped area in the photo, as well as the lagoon towards the bottom of the photo.  Sarnia and Point Edward, Ontario, Canada are in the foreground.  You are looking southeast to northwest. We dock not too far from the center of the cross.  Across the St. Clair River, and the beautiful Bluewater Bridges is Port Huron, Michigan, U.S.A.  The bridges are visible from our cockpit, and at night, they light up with soft blue lights.  Of course to to the north you see beautiful, clean Lake Huron.  We drive 105 miles from our Ann Arbor, Michigan home to this marina.  There are other marinas less than half this distance from us.  But the excellent facilities and management at Bridgeview make the extra drive well worth it.
