Triocracy was formed when I decided that the horns should do a couple of numbers without the rhythm section on a sextet concert. Originally comprised of myself along with Allan Chase and Jason Hunter in Boston, the NYC version of Triocracy includes Andy Laster on alto/bari and Chris Bacas on tenor/soprano. On the whole, our repertoire is mainly spontaneous improvisation or tunes written as a vehicle for free improvisation, but there are some other flavors in the mix, including some works from the "classical" and pop worlds, along with a few standard jazz tunes where we actually play the changes.
The Schumacher/Sanford Sound Assembly has been presenting our original music to the NYC population for over 4 years. Made up of some of the greatest players around, including John Hollenbeck, Mark Patterson, Andy Green, Deanna Witkowski, and many others, the band attacks our challenging works with a passion and fervor. We are forever grateful for their musicality and dedication!
We just recorded in August, so hopefully the record will be out soon. Stay tuned.

Pulse is a federation of seven award-winning composers, including myself, Joseph C. Phillips Jr., Darcy James Argue, Jamie Begian, Joshua Shneider, and Yumiko Sunami. Though we all lead our own large ensembles, with this project our goal is to create and perform music not limited by categories or genre in more of a chamber music-sized ensemble.
My Band Foot Foot is a group that reinterprets the music of The Shaggs, a self-taught family "rock" band from the late 60's which has become a cult fascination. Andy Green, John McNeil , and I have all arranged a number of the compositions by one Dorothy Wiggin in a variety of flavors for our sextet of trumpet, trombone, violin, guitar, bass, and drums (etc.). Recording recently completed, so soundfiles are on the way! In the meanwhile, you can also check out this website for even more info on what those girls are up to.
Though Mark, Eric, and I all were all going to school in Iowa and were once all in the same room together, we never actually played together as a unit until Eric and I moved out to Boston. Once Mark moved to NYC and Eric soon joined him, our playing opportunities became more numerous. We decided to make a recording that combined our own creative voices as tune writers with a little sprinkling of some classics.
