Seminars and classes are the least threatening form of gaining counseling information next to reading or listening/viewing tapes. People can attend because they themselves have a problem or they can attend because a family member or friend has a problem. People can also attend to gain information out of curiosity or for personal growth.  Classes will be held when interest indicates they are needed.

If you are interested in a class or seminar, please call Jerry at 937-427-9151

SEE INFORMATION BELOW ON PARTICULAR PROBLEMS. Please don't put off getting help if you are having dangerous thoughts--either toward yourself or another person. Teens and young adults often feel that they are unique--they are. Counselors are trained and kept up to date on the current culture--challenge us! If you can't think where to go, go to the hospital emergency.

Mood Disorders: Depression, Anxiety, Mood Swings

Depression--enduring feelings of sadness and loss. Most depression can easily be treated medically and managed with counseling. It is one problem a person cannot manage alone. Sometimes participating in activities that you like to do (or used to like to do) may help alleviate some of your symptoms. Get support from people (friends, relatives, or a support group). Use of drugs or alcohol may intensify the depression over time making it worse rather than better. Anxiety is a common problem and can lead to lack of sleep, eating disorders and addictions. Treatment of anxiety with medication is often more difficult because of the nature of the feeling and the body's ability to build tolerance to drugs. This sets up the body for a pattern leading to addiction. Mood swings often include depression. Fast or slow changes in mood may indicate the need for medical/psychological evaluation. Mood problems can often be solved if you seek help and follow up by telling your doctor/therapist how well the treatment is working.

Personal pain may be the result of past abuse

History of abuse, as a child or as an adult, causes many problems for people. If they cannot resolve such abuse, they may carry a cloud into their current relationships, which prevents them from seeing things as they really are. Victims for many different reasons often endure physical abuse and emotional abuse. Consequences of physical abuse are often easier for people to survive than the consequences of emotional abuse. Codependency is a common side effect of these forms of abuse. Counseling can help. Call JMAC Counseling for assistance.

Sexual abuse as child is often hidden from memory as only a part of the sub-conscious. Sexual abuse often occurs over a period of time because of powerlessness and the manipulation of the perpetrator to make the victim feel responsible for the abuse. Work with a trained and compassionate therapist can help. This takes courage and a willingness to discover. A Christian counselor may offer compassionate healing and discovery of a hope and a future. Call or email Jerry with questions.

Fears, Phobias, Shame, Guilt, Addictions

FEARS AND PHOBIAS--In most cases, phobias can be treated with counseling. Fears spoil life for many by trapping them in their homes, or with feelings of rejection or social isolation. Fears may lead to other problems including eating disorders, panic disorder, social phobia, and harmful behaviors. Sometimes understanding our GUILT AND SHAME is key to understanding ourselves. Guilt and Shame often have more than one component. Often people have guilt and shame that they do NOT deserve. Although they may have guilt they deserve, they do not need to carry the part they do not deserve. If this is what you have to work through, some counseling may help to separate deserved from undeserved guilt and shame. The part that we deserve can motivate us to change. The Christian view of grace is beneficial to those who struggle with guilt and shame. Call or write Jerry for more information.

Drug and alcohol abuse or dependence often disrupts life around you. If drugs or alcohol is an issue, help is often the best way to overcome it or recover. Codependence is the way your life seems to be controlled by others. If alcohol or drug dependence or codependence is a problem--help is available. Some people have described the feeling as if they were a donut with a hole in the middle into which they have poured alcohol or drugs or some other addictive behavior. It may be that it is a GOD-sized hole that only God can fill. Call Jerry for clarification at (937)427-9151 or email to the address below.
