Herndon, VA - 6/97 to 2/99

Launched the first professional internal communications operation within AOL Member Services. This program served 5,000 customer service staff in 6 states.

Revitalized the Member Services Intranet by making editorial content concise, relevant and user friendly. As a result, time spent in the site by its target audience nearly doubled.

Participated in strategic planning conferences and created programs to encourage adoption by staff of the strategic direction and values.

Improved the flow of information from collaborating departments by earning their trust.

Enhanced efforts of field communications staff by instituting weekly conference calls to alert them to arising issues, share information and coordinate action.

Created and managed programs to capture AOL member comments on policies and products. Reported findings to Senior VP who circulated them to the highest levels of the company.

Worked with outside vendor to develop a quarterly employee survey that, among other things, measured the effectiveness of our communications program. More than 70% of our staff participated in these surveys. Results showed communications satisfaction rose more than 20% during my time with Member Services.

Managed Discover AOL online site to combat member churn. This area included Learn AOL, the first comprehensive online tutorials for new members. Managed and edited the AOL Tip of the Day email newsletter and grew the publication from zero to 230,000 subscribers. Created AOL QuickStart (short tutorials) to make a new member's first session more satisfying and compelling.

Daily duties included: working with writers, artists and technical staff to develop content and with research staff to measure the effectiveness and member usage of the areas.

American Red Cross, National Capital Chapter
Washington, DC - 1/94 to 2/96

Devised the communications strategy (including basic research, budgeting, messages, goals, objectives, and key audiences) for one of the largest Red Cross chapters in the country.

Managed publication development and production. Built The Communicator newsletter (circulation: 60,000) into a revenue stream that generated $20,000 annual net profit.

Worked with senior management and members of the Board of Directors on strategic planning; drafted planning documents and provided counsel on strategic directions.
