Japan Society of Fairfield County
Greenwich Health Fair, Oct. 15, 2005
Members of Japan Society participated in Greenwich Multi-Cultural Health
Fair
The Greenwich Multi-Cultural Health Fair was held on Saturday, Oct. 15 at
Western Middle School, 1 Western Junior Highway to celebrate health and
heritage among residents with different cultural backgrounds sponsored by
Greenwich Health Improvement Partnership.
A request to participate in the Fair came to our member Vickie Hackman.
Vickie and Noboru Uezumi, then our vice president, decided to participate
jointly with the Japanese Education Center in Greenwich. Four demonstrations
of Japanese culture, namely Origami, Calligraphy, Kimono dressing and Koto
performance were presented. Over 150 parents and children participated
in these demonstrations. Vickie and Noboru Uezumi also arranged
for Mr. Yajima to perform piano and synthesizer in the auditorium.
Other members from our Society who assisted were Junko Uezumi, then Board
of Directors, Mr. & Mrs. Shima, the Director of Japanese Education Center,
Atsuko Giampaoli, Simone Ingram, Todd Bellomy and Harry & Hiroko Sakamaki.
Parents and students from Greenwich Japanese School also assisted. We
all enjoyed a bright Saturday after a week long rainy days.
