Japan Society of Fairfield County
Pre Thanksgiving Banquet, Nov. 12, 2006
Pre-Thankgiving Banquet for the Homeless: For the 13th consecutive year
our Japan Society members celebrated this quintessential American
holiday by sharing the harvest with homeless individuals and families
from the Stamford area at St. Luke’s Lifeworks’ Woodland Place Center
on Sunday, November 12, 2006. Flowers decorated the tables, which were
covered
with festive orange tablecloths. This year we were very fortunate to
have new member Takeshi Asai and his jazz group WaFoo perform during
the banquet. WaFoo consists of Yuuki Koike, Flute, Alto Sax;
Masashi Sonoda, Bass; Takeshi Asai, Piano; Ippei Ichimaru, Cello,
Percussion, Guitar; Kazuo Nakamura, Bass; and Yutaka Uchida, Drums. We
all enjoyed a delicious main course Thanksgiving
repast
provided by Union Enterprises, plus an abundance of Japanese delicacies
and desserts brought by Society members. Nancy and Vernon Beck brought
pumpkin pie; Dustin and Laura Bunch, fruity pistachio fluff; Chiko and
Tom Hedberg, stir fry; Marcia Howard, Jello molds;Simone
Ingram, fruit salad and clementines; Marcia Jones and Gokuen Akyol,
cakes and donuts; Letty Militana, popcorn and nuts; Joan Rolnick,
clementines; Hiroko and Harry Sakamaki, Japanese sweets; Seiichi and
Joyce Shinomiya, chirashi sushi; Nina
Streitfeld, pies; Madeleine Sullivan, tort. The
Japan Society of Fairfield County is the only Japan Society known to
reach out to its community in this way.
