Planting a cherry tree
After that, Junzo's wish that he would plant cherry trees on both banks of the river was realized. He was going to present to the city of Stamford young cherry tree saplings. First, with the advice of his friend, Mr. Frank Yoshida, Junzo bought about 120 saplings which were about 6 feet tall. He presented them to the city with a drawing designating the place, the depth and the diameter of each hole to be dug. However, the city authorities in those days dug the holes and planted the saplings ignoring his drawing, and only watered them with sprinklers.
