About the company
Since 2002, KO&Co. has created works that investigate the body as agent, the impact of space and shaped perspective, and the weaving of improvisation and choreography. KO&Co.’s movement is marked by its tactile athleticism and compositional play. KO&Co. dancers are an integral part in the generating of movement with an intriguing blend of modern dance, post-modern ballet, capoeira, action theater, and improvisation.
KO&Co. has received grants from the National Orchestral Association, Elvinwing Co., Wistariahurst Museum, Thornes APE and Massachusetts Cultural Council as well as support from local businesses and patrons. KO&Co. receives non-profit sponsorship through The Field in New York, NY.
Katrina O'Brien, Artistic Director
Katrina T. O'Brien received a BA at Middlebury College for dance and sociology in 2000. Since relocating to Portland, she has shown her work at Conduit, Holocene, PerformanceWorksNW, and Capital Hill Art Center. She has been a part of the Foreman Festival, Natasha & Boris Festival, and Ten Tiny Dances including at TBA and South Waterfront. As part of the present dance faculty at Cedar Hills Recreation Center and Lets Make Music & Dance, she has been able to bring the world of dance to younger generations.
While on the east coast, O'Brien showed her work at On The Roof, OpenSquare, Masters, DTW, Mobius, Thornes APE, The Wistariahurst Museum, University Settlement and even an abandoned farmhouse.
She has worked with HawleyMartin, Tia Dang & Co., The Ensemble Project, The Ephemerons, Tikkun Aerial Co., Stephen Koplowitz & Co., Lost Arts Dance, and Linda Austin Dance. In 2003, O’Brien opened The Paper Mill in Holyoke, MA as a work and performance space for local dancers until moving to Portland in 2005.
