MORTUARY (Obituary):

“Frank H. Allison of the Penrose Section Is Gathered to His Father.
As noted in these columns last week Frank H. Allison died at his home on Glade creek Monday Nov. 6, aged about 77 years.
When the war broke out between the states Mr. Allison was living in Atlanta and enlisted in the 8th Georgia regiment. An order was issued from Confederate headquarters permitting all enlisted men to take their enlistment into troops from their states where was their home, and Mr. Allison took advantage of this order and was transferred to the 25th North Carolina . He was a good soldier - fought through the war and surrendered with Lee at Appomattox and then tramped all the way back to his home in the mountains of North Carolina .
The material required to make a good soldier always males a good citizen and Frank Allison was no exception to the rule. He laid down the sword and gun and devoted his energies to building a home. He was quiet and unobtrusive in demeanor and hadn't an enemy in the world. During the last years of his life he had been a great sufferer, and his death was not unexpected.
Mr. Allison was a staunch and true friend of the News, and has been a constant reader almost from its first number. We have many times been cheered by his kind words of encouragement and approval when the outlook was not as bright as it is now. In his death this paper has lost a true friend, the county a good citizen and his family a loving husband and father. May he rest in peace."
