Lucian Scarbrough Barnsley was born12 Nov 1840, and died in 1892. He was a member of Company A, the Rome Light Guards, of the 8th Georgia Volunteer Infantry. Confederate War Service Summary: Private May 18, 1861. Detailed to report to Dr. Miller at Greensboro, GA, Oct 31, 1864, and at the very close was made a captain.

Together with his brother George Scarbrough Barnsley, participated in the "First Battle of Manassas, July 21 1861. George and Lucian were together holding the banner when Col. Francis Bartow was mortally wounded and died. On Dec 6, 1861 the old Cass County became known as Bartow County, GA. The town Cassville was changed to Manassas, after the first Confederate victory, and remained under that name until the end of the war, when it was once again called Cassville.

After the war Lucian and his brother immigrated to Brazil in the expedition led by J.J. McMullen of Texas and arrived at Sao Paulo in May 1867. Lucian became a pharmacist and would later marry in 1871 to Hannah Grady from Mississipi, who would bear him three children. Lucian died in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 1892.
